"Laundry price per kg" is one of the most searched laundry questions in Bengaluru. The trouble is that laundries price in two different ways, by the kilo and by the piece, and a price per kilo can't be compared with a price per shirt until you know how many shirts make a kilo.
This guide gives you a simple way to compare the two properly, and shows which kind of basket each pricing model favours.
What a kilo of laundry actually looks like
Dry weights vary with fabric and size, but these are typical:
| Item | Approximate dry weight | Roughly per kilo |
|---|---|---|
| T-shirt | 150–200 g | 5–6 |
| Cotton shirt | 200–250 g | 4–5 |
| Trousers | 300–450 g | 2–3 |
| Jeans | 500–700 g | about 2 |
| Bath towel | 400–600 g | about 2 |
| Single bedsheet | 400–600 g | about 2 |
| Double bedsheet | 600–900 g | 1–2 |
| Pillow cover | 80–120 g | 8–10 |
The quickest way to know your own numbers is to weigh a typical week's laundry on a bathroom scale once.
How per-kg pricing usually works
- The whole bag is weighed, usually dry, and charged at a single rate
- There's often a minimum weight per order
- The rate usually covers washing and folding. Ironing is often charged per piece on top
- Items may be washed together rather than one by one
How per-piece pricing works
- Every item has its own price on a rate card, so you can work out the bill in advance
- Each piece is counted and listed, which makes it easy to check nothing is missing
- Ironing is included when you choose a wash-and-iron service
- A heavy towel and a light T-shirt are each priced as what they are
A worked example
Here's one person's typical week, priced on LaundroKart's per-piece rate card:
| Item | Qty | Approx. weight | Wash & fold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shirts | 5 | 1.1 kg | 5 × ₹29 = ₹145 |
| T-shirts | 5 | 0.9 kg | 5 × ₹26 = ₹130 |
| Trousers | 3 | 1.2 kg | 3 × ₹30 = ₹90 |
| Jeans | 1 | 0.6 kg | ₹40 |
| Bath towels | 2 | 1.0 kg | 2 × ₹36 = ₹72 |
| Total | 16 | about 4.8 kg | ₹477 |
That basket works out to roughly ₹100 per kilo. To compare any two laundries, divide the per-piece total by the weight. That gives you an effective per-kilo price you can hold up against a per-kg quote.
The rule of thumb
The comparison changes with what's in the bag:
- Heavy baskets favour per-piece pricing. Jeans, towels and bedsheets weigh a lot for their price. A bath towel at ₹36 that weighs half a kilo works out to about ₹72 per kilo.
- Light baskets favour per-kg pricing. T-shirts, innerwear and pillow covers weigh very little. A T-shirt at ₹26 that weighs 170 g works out to about ₹150 per kilo.
A mixed weekly basket usually lands in between, which is why working out your own effective rate is worth the two minutes.
What the price doesn't show
Two quotes can look similar and be quite different services. Before you compare, ask:
- Is ironing included? Wash & iron vs wash & fold can nearly double the per-piece price. At LaundroKart a shirt is ₹29 washed and folded, or ₹39 washed and ironed.
- Are clothes separated? Whites, colours and delicates should be washed apart.
- Are items counted? A per-kg bag with no item list is hard to check if a sock or shirt goes missing.
- Are pickup and delivery included? Or is it a drop-off counter?
- What's the turnaround? Standard delivery at LaundroKart is about 4–5 days.

Our rate card is per piece, so every item is priced and listed before you pay. For large bulk washes, some of our stores also offer a by-weight option. Ask when you book.
Frequently asked questions
What is the usual laundry price per kg in Bengaluru?
It varies a lot by provider and by what's included, like ironing, folding, pickup and separate washing of colours. Rather than comparing headline rates, work out the effective per-kilo cost of your own basket using the method above.
Is per-piece laundry more expensive than per-kg?
Not necessarily. For baskets with heavy items such as jeans, towels and bedsheets, per-piece pricing is often better value. For baskets of light T-shirts and innerwear, per-kg can come out cheaper.
How do I know my final bill with per-piece pricing?
Every item has a listed price on the rate card, so you can estimate before booking. Your order is counted when it's collected, and the final bill is confirmed from that count.
Do you charge by weight for bedsheets and blankets?
Bedsheets are priced per piece in wash & fold. Heavier items like blankets, quilts and curtains are handled in home-care cleaning, also priced per piece.
